My sweet Grace

Yesterday the girls and I were upstairs in their bedroom reading their new library books. (Book worms, I tell ya. If I would read to them all day they would let me.) Surprisingly to all of us, we started hearing thunder and lightening. Then it started to pour. The girls peeped out their window and gave me the forecast: "Lots and lots (or as Gracie said yots and yots) of rain and thunder, Mommy!" When they rejoined me in the floor, I finished the rest of the book pile before I told them I needed to go downstairs to put a load of clothes in the dryer... but that I would be right back to read some more.

Two minutes later, as I was moving the clothes... I felt someone watching me. It was Gracie. Her eyes were watering, her little lip was quivering. I bent down and said, "Gracie! What's the matter?"

She replied in what has got to be the cutest voice I've ever heard, "Mommy, will you protect us?"

Cue my eyes watering and lip quivering.

"Yes, Gracie, of course I will protect you!"

To which she said, "No, Mommy! Not me... protect us."

I guess Sweet Thing wanted to be sure I was going to protect Big Sis from the scary thunder as well.

"Yes, I will protect both of you. Always."

Oh, my sweet Grace. Love.
